Access Worker – Job Description

To support the access needs of a wheelchair dancer on the Casson & Friends tour of 'Night at the Theatre', and additionally, to support the production team in any tasks required to help set up the show.

Competitive fee for work

This role entails:

  • Supporting the general access requirements of a performer

  • Helping to set up the performance space (under guidance from production team)

  • Supporting dancer in and out of the car by assembling and disassembling her wheelchair

  • Assisting with carrying belongings, dance kit, costumes and any other relevant equipment Dancer might need

  • Assisting where necessary over adverse terrain, cambers and slopes and with negotiating access in and around buildings

  • Helping change into dance shoes and/or change into dance gear

  • Assisting Dancer in class if needed. This may also include assisting Dancer to get in and out of her

    wheelchair (some experience of lift and handling procedures is preferable)

  •  Supporting Dancer in workshops, assisting where needed with music and helping to demonstrate

    exercises (some experience of dance preferable)

  • Occasionally travelling with Dancer on public transport, assisting with transfer onto seats/collapsing of wheelchair

  • Contacting rail operators to pre-arrange passenger assistance and ramps at stations as required.

  •  A variety of other tasks and errands, including fetching and carrying items where needed, food runs etc, including assisting to and from restaurants when away from home

    This role requires:

  • Occasional overnight stays

  • Prior experience of access work

    Person specification:

  • An interest in dance/performance. Although not essential, a specific interest in children's performance and interacting with children would be of benefit. There will be the opportunity to be more involved with the setup and running of the show for the right applicant.

  • Kind, patient and flexible

  • Willing to travel and work weekends

    The access worker must be available for the dates below.
